Od Nezumiego – "Begone, dark thoughts!"

Nezumi stared at his mail box that has been empty for a while now. No one was ordering his shirts, and he couldn’t figure out, whether it was because of the prices people found unappealing, or because his online shop lost its reach. He was contemplating buying an ad somewhere on social media, but that shit was pricey, and he only had enough money to survive. Hoshime and Sora were supporting him, however despite how much he loved it, he didn’t want to be dependent on them. Not to mention not contributing to the household he invited himself into, without asking for a permission first. He tended to be an asshole, but he had his morals.

Noticing how his sales went down, Little Rat left the shared flat in search of an inspiration.

To be honest, he didn’t know how long he’s been walking aimlessly on the streets. It was already getting dark when he realized he might be late for lunch. Just a little bit. It didn’t really matter to him, though, since he didn’t feel hungry anyway. He didn’t feel like doing anything, really. It was only by some miracle that the gang that attacked him to steal his belongings was scared off by the police before they could do anything, as Nezumi wouldn’t even protect himself from them.

He wasn’t sure, what happened that made him behave that way. Were those first signs of depression? Perhaps he just felt burnt out and uninspired? Or maybe he realized that the big city was not as beautiful and fulfilling as he had hoped, and was now suffering from Stellaire syndrome?

He knew the term “Stellaire syndrome”, or rather the original name of this. Initially it was a phenomenon registered in people from certain places, who visited other certain places that they thought would be beautiful and magical. It was always a certain group visiting a city popularized in media and movies. Then, upon return, those people would fall victim to depression, because the reality was too harsh to deal with. This phenomenon was usually called That-Place’s-Name syndrome. Nezumi felt like he was experiencing something similar with Stellaire, so that’s why he nicknamed this feeling “Stellaire syndrome”. Seemed fitting.

It took him another few hours to realize the night has spread its wings above the city, covering it with darkness. Little Rat was in a place he didn’t recognize, and at this moment he wished he took his phone with him. Sora and Hoshime were probably worried sick.

Or maybe they didn’t notice at all that you were missing, a sudden thought struck the man.

He shook his head. What the hell was that about? Why would they not notice? They were his friends, all three lived together and looked after one another. There was no way in whatever otherworldly dimensions existed that they wouldn’t notice and they wouldn’t care!

Would you notice? Would you care? You don’t seem like the caring type, another dark thought creeped into his mind.

Okay, now Nezumi was sure there was something wrong going on under that crow’s nest of his. And he didn’t mean an internal dialogue, he had those quite often, his inside voice just has never been this disturbing and dark. He was always so positive about everything, why the sudden change?

It won’t be long until they forget about you, spoke the voice again. Just like your mother di-

“Shut up!”

Nezumi’s panicked shout echoed throughout the neighborhood he was in. He covered his mouth and quickly ran in a random direction, so no one would call cops on him.

The voice was now getting his mother into it, and that was a dangerous game to play.
